The Brno Conservatory’s concert hall faced challenges in capacity, comfort, and acoustics, necessitating a ground-up reconstruction. Collaborating with architectural firms PROJECT building and POParch, we constructed a new hall with a 230-seat capacity, concurrently refurbishing adjacent spaces and sanitary facilities.
Overseeing the project, Construction Manager Ing. Michal Kot’a navigated complications such as winter weather, challenging transport access, and student movement on-site. Remarkably, conservatory teaching continued seamlessly during the construction.
The new concert hall features a reinforced concrete base slab, with the main load-bearing structure composed of steel profile transverse frame ties. The roof is adorned with green gauges.
Externally, a captivating façade resembling a keyboard crafted from bondo cassettes catches the eye. Internally, the drywall ceiling boasts acoustically designed panels forming intricate, spatially refracted surfaces. Combined with sound-absorbing marmoleum flooring, the hall achieves optimal acoustic properties.
