Chemistry Pavilion for the University of South Bohemia

ESOX has constructed a modern three-story Chemistry Pavilion featuring five classrooms and 22 laboratories on the rapidly expanding campus. Starting from autumn 2023, it will cater to students from two departments of the Faculty of Agriculture and Technology at the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice.

To make way for the pavilion, ESOX, serving as the general contractor, undertook the demolition of older buildings occupying the site during the summer of 2021. The presence of asbestos posed a particular challenge, necessitating a professional and meticulous approach to demolition, conducted under the strict supervision of health inspectors.

Upon completion at the end of summer 2023, the pavilion’s main entrance stands out with Corten tah metal cladding, boasting a natural rust patina that, together with the stainless steel ceiling cladding, forms a distinctive architectural feature. The same material is employed in the tower housing the external staircase.

The ground floor of the building encompasses laboratories, workshops, and essential technological facilities, ranging from the electronic fire alarm switchboard to the central heating distribution unit and the neutralization and compressor station.

Distinct color schemes adorn each floor of the pavilion – green, yellow, or brown – further echoed in interior wall paintings and furnishings. Students and researchers from the Department of Applied Chemistry and the Department of Agroecosystems benefit from five classrooms, 22 laboratories, and two preparation rooms, with additional administrative spaces, day rooms featuring kitchenettes, and meeting rooms located on the second and third floors.

Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, all laboratories feature essential amenities such as laboratory fume cupboards, indispensable for modern teaching, alongside specialized gas distribution systems.

The construction of the new building amounted to 132.44 million, excluding VAT, incorporating ten parking spaces. Furthermore, the inclusion of outdoor bicycle storage is expected to be appreciated by students residing in České Budějovice.
